On the Subject of Boxes

We often find ourselves trapped in boxes built of expectation and inertia. Some of them come with labels such as gifted or normal. Some of them promise stability with good grades or a steady job. They are built by our parents' hands, by those of society, and most importantly our own. These boxes feel safe; their contents are familiar and well-traveled. But they can also be stifling.

Breaking out of a box is terrifying, but it's also liberating. It's impossible to know how liberating it is, until we can look back and see just how small that box was.
